SUMMARY:A Day in a Life of a WFH Pythonista - Ep#4w/ John Rei Enriquez (PythonDeveloper)
DESCRIPTION:A Day in Life of a WFH Pythonista Ep#4: a webinar talk show with John Rei Enriquez\, a Python/Django Developer for Australian companies. \nHave you ever wondered what a typical day looks like for a Python Programmer? \nWHAT:A Day in a Life of a WFH Pythonista is a monthly virtual webinar talk show series where we interview Pythonistas representing various roles (Developer\, CTO\, Data Scientist\, QA\, Network Engineer\, Scientist\, Educator\, etc.) to give people in the community an insight of what a typical workday looks like for these various roles. Hopefully\, this would also serve as an inspiration and give a sense of community especially for most who are working from home. \nIn this episode\, we will be interviewing John Rei Enriquez \nJohn Rei is an Electronics Engineer that found his way into web development through Python/Django in early 2017. So far in his career\, he has become the CTO of Daluyong Solutions — a financial services software company in the Philippines\, published a couple of Django packages on PyPI\, and is still in love with Web Development through Python/Django to this day. With the recent pandemic\, he is currently working as a remote Django/React Developer for a Mortgage Broker Software in Australia and part-time on the weekends for another Australian Outplacement company. Interests outside of work include music and overall fitness. \nWHEN: May 29\, 2021 (Saturday) at 5:00pm-5:30pm \nWHERE: Online via Zoom and broadcasted on YouTube Live \n— \nSPECIAL THANKS:Special thanks to FactSet Philippines for sponsoring our show this month! <3 \nAbout FactSet:“FactSet’s product suite of smart analytics and unique data empowers the world’s leading financial service professionals to make more informed decisions every day. SUMMARY:AWSUG.PH MONTHLY MEETUP FOR MAY - AWS Meetup [ONLINE #5]
DESCRIPTION:AWS DATA AND ANALYTICS MEETUP \nWith the world more connected than ever\, data has become more important than oil. Companies collect huge amounts of data from their customers and store them in powerful data warehouses and “data lakes”. \nData lakes and data warehouses are both widely used for storing big data\, but they are not interchangeable terms. A data lake is a vast pool of raw data\, the purpose for which is not yet defined. A data warehouse is a repository for structured\, filtered data that has already been processed for a specific purpose. \nBut data\, sitting on a database unused\, isn’t much. It’s about turning data into insight and insight into strategy that unlocks the true power of data. By enabling executives to make data-driven decisions\, companies can stay ahead of the competition and provide the most value for their customers. \nIn this meetup\, learn from data experts on how they build the necessary infrastructure to transform data into insight.

SUMMARY:A Day in a Life of a WFH Pythonista - Ep#3 w/ Cory Althoff (Programming Author)
DESCRIPTION:A Day in Life of a WFH Pythonista Ep#3: a webinar talk show with Cory Althoff\, Author of the book The Self Taught Programmer \nHave you ever wondered what a typical day looks like for a programmer and author? \nOr are you a career shifter or a fresh grad thinking of becoming a Python programmer? \nThis show is for you! Our guest this weekend\, Cory Althoff is the author of the book “The Self-taught Programmer”.Here’s your chance to ask clarifying questions or random curiosities about becoming a Python Developer 🙂 \nWHAT:A Day in a Life of a WFH Pythonista is a monthly virtual webinar talk show series where we interview Pythonistas representing various roles (Developer\, CTO\, Data Scientist\, QA\, Network Engineer\, Scientist\, Educator\, etc.) to give people in the community an insight of what a typical work day looks like for these various roles. Hopefully\, this would also serve as an inspiration and give a sense of community especially for most who are working from home. \nIn this episode\, we will be interviewing Cory Althoff. \nCory Althoff is an author\, programmer\, and speaker. He is best known for his book The Self-Taught Programmer\, which has been published in seven languages and introduced the term “self-taught programmer” into the common lexicon. Book Authority named The Self-Taught Programmer one of the greatest programming books of all time\, and The Next Web listed it as one of the ten books that will help you become a better software engineer. Over 200K developers are part of the self-taught programmer community he created through his popular Facebook group\, blog\, newsletter\, and Udemy course. In 2019\, Cory gave the opening keynote speech at Pycon JP. Cory is currently a developer advocate at Vonage and lives in the Bay Area with his wife and daughter. \nWHEN: April 24\, 2021 (Saturday) at 1:00pm-1:30pm PHT \nWHERE: Online via Zoom and broadcasted on YouTube Live \nHosted by: Alysson Alvaran and Angelica Lapastora

SUMMARY:AWSUG.PH MONTHLY MEETUP FOR APRIL - AWS Meetup [ONLINE #4]
DESCRIPTION:THEME: DevOps & Security \nIn this meetup\, we will discuss DevOps and Security and how they have become an integral part of operating in the cloud. DevOps is a response against the traditional separation of the those who coded the application (developers) and those who operated it (operations). Teams that developed the application should also play a key role in maintaining it. In this way\, each team can deploy features fast and minimize production downtime. \nAs DevOps gained popularity in the tech world\, increasing worries about security incidents have also gained traction. Companies are now investing capital in securing applications yet still retaining that deployment agility that DevOps provides.

But a lot of our development and operations work still depend on the old reliable *command line*. This TechUp Session introduces you to the basics of how to use the Linux command line. It’s not a complete look into it\, but it’s just enough for you to not get lost when you’re there. \n*Who is it for?*– You are a developer\, specially someone that plans to do backend/systems development.– You plan to use git.– You want to go into DevOps.– You want to use any of the DevOps tools for software development.– You have started using Linux for the first time but still gets lost with commands. \n*What will you learn?*– The command line interface (also called The Shell)– Shell tools– Shell scripting– Data wrangling– A tiny tiny bit of vim \n*What do you need?*– Your own computer– A Linux environment. This may be any of the following:– Windows 10 installed with WSL2 (preferred if you’re using the latest version of Windows 10 Pro/Home)– A Linux virtual machine– An actual installation of Linux on your computer– If you can boot Ubuntu from a USB drive\, you’re okay. \n*** \nNOTE: The type of Linux you use here will not be important. But if you’re a complete beginner to Linux\, I would suggest you get Ubuntu. \n*** \nNOTE: There will be an online install party the night before the TechUp. Please wait for further details on this. You’ll need to use your phone instead of your computer to join the install party.
